“They” say you should keep your politics and your business separate so as not to alienate potential customers. They obviously don’t know me well. I have always worn my heart on my sleeve and stood up for what’s right and I’ll continue to do so even if it affects my business. I mean, what do you expect from someone with a big-ass tattoo of Ruth Bader Ginsburg on her leg?
Last night, when a draft version of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe was leaked, I cried. I cried thinking of RBG and how hard she fought for women’s rights during her long, sometimes challenging life. I cried for my daughters and their uncertain future. And, I cried for myself for having to put my own career on the backburner after having children, believing strongly that, for my kids’ generation, things would be different.
When I get knocked down, I generally give myself a day to feel disappointment and anger and even defeat. But then, I get myself up, replace the feeling of defeat with determination and start looking for a better solution. So, let me be very clear, I–and my company–will always stand up for the rights of women everywhere. Today, I’m making a donation to Planned Parenthood on behalf of Dessous Loungewear and I hope you’ll join me in doing the same.
