Dessous Loungewear Goes to India
Dessous's move to India should reduce our carbon footprint significantly. This may seem counterintuitive, but production in the U.S. involves shipping fabric from the manufacturer (the majority of sustainable fabrics are made in Asia) to the fabric wholesalers--the company we've been using is in Canada--to our factory in Los Angeles. From there, the finished garments are shipped to Atlanta where we pack and ship the orders to you. All this shipping is expensive and a heavy burden on the planet.

There are a couple good reasons to keep your shopping local for the holidays. First, it benefits your local economy. The past year has been rough on retailers. Many have had to close their doors and the ones that remain have taken quite a hit with COVID. They could really use your support.

14 Ways Entrepreneurship is Like Parenthood
In many ways, entrepreneurship is very similar to parenthood. Here are a few:
1. You’re never ready for it. You’ll never BE ready for it. Start before you’re ready.
2. It’s a learn-on-the-job situation. You can read all the how-to books you want, but you’ll never be prepared for the problems that arise no one ever dreamed of. For example, your husband is out of town on business, it’s pouring out and creek water is rising in your backyard inching closer and closer to your house. You have one child home sick and the school nurse calls to tell you the other kid isn’t feeling well (True story.) What do you do?

The fact that I’ve managed to launch this company despite the myriad stumbling blocks that come with entrepreneurship is proof of that. Whatever Happened to the Hostess Dress?
Wearing a hostess dress back in the day was a bit of a power move. It said, “I’m not just a mother of four; I’m a multi-talented chef, florist, interior decorator, conversationalist, and the secret brains behind my husband’s success. Moreover, watch me do all of the above while dressed in this full-length, polyester gown with extra flammable sleeves. And afterwards? I’ll lounge wherever I damn well please.”

What is a Presale?
We're launching our first collection using a presale model. Presales are a modern alternative to the traditional retail business model that's been used for decades. At Dessous, we've adopted a presale model because it's a great way to reduce waste while also reducing the cost of sustainable clothing.
